A low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal is projected to intensify into Cyclone Remal by Sunday evening, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The cyclone is expected to reach Bangladesh and West Bengal by the evening of May 26.
Wind warnings have been issued, with squally winds expected to reach 50-60 kmph over the central Bay of Bengal on May 24 and increasing to 100-110 kmph by May 26 morning.
Heavy rainfall warnings have also been issued for May 26 and 27, with coastal areas of West Bengal and north Odisha expecting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations.
An orange alert has been issued for several districts, including Kolkata and Howrah, due to anticipated light to moderate rainfall.
Sea conditions are expected to deteriorate, with rough to very rough sea waves predicted over the Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh, West Bengal, and adjoining areas from May 24 to May 27, prompting advice against fishing in these areas during this period.
