Laldenga was a Mizo nationalist and politician from Mizoram, India.

He founded the Mizo National Front, initially a social organization that later became a political party.

Laldenga served as the first Chief Minister of Mizoram from 1986 to 1988.

Prior to his political career, he served as a Havildar in the Indian Army and later worked as an Accounts Clerk in the Government of Assam.

Laldenga rebelled against the government due to their indifference to the severe famine in the Mizo district in the late 1950s.

He led a secessionist war as the leader of the Mizo National Front, seeking independence for Mizo territory from India.

Laldenga faced capture multiple times and spent a significant amount of time in exile in Bangladesh.

The guerrilla movement led by Laldenga lasted for sixteen years until the signing of the Mizo Accord in 1986.

Following the Mizo Accord, Laldenga became the Chief Minister of the newly formed state of Mizoram.

He won the first Mizoram Legislative Assembly election in 1987 and remained in office as Chief Minister for another year before passing away from lung cancer in 1990.
