Vinay Mohan Kwatra has been named the next Ambassador of India to the United States, according to a Ministry of External Affairs statement on July 19.

Appointed Ambassador

Kwatra, a 1988 batch Indian Foreign Service officer, was appointed Foreign Secretary in April 2022.

Background

Before becoming Foreign Secretary, Kwatra served as India’s envoy to Nepal and was the Ambassador to France from August 2017 to February 2020.

Previous Roles

Kwatra is recognized for his extensive experience in handling relations with India’s neighbors, the U.S., China, and Europe.

Expertise

He has over 32 years of diplomatic experience, including a two-year tenure as Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) from October 2015 to August 2017.
