Assam education minister Jayanta Mallabarua today tabled the Assam Tourism Bill at the Assam Assembly, with the aim of regulating the state's tourism industry.
The Bill is proposed to provide a comprehensive legal framework for the Tourism sector in Assam. It aims to revitalise and promote the tourism industry.
It has been stated that the proposed Bill will not lead to any expenditure from the Consolidated Fund of the state of Assam.
The bill further states that the tourism business and service provider would be registered.
The Bill talks of various aspects of the registration process such as issue of duplicate certificate, renewal of certificate, certificate of registration to be kept exhibited, changes in registration certificate, etc.
The government via this Bill has the right to take action against those engage malpractices and they will be blacklisted.
An Adventure Safety Audit Committee would be formed to look into the regulation of the activities of adventure sports.
The technical committee will examine the applications for adventure activities which get scrutinised by the District Tourism Officer.
The Bill also talks of the various penalties that would be levied for malpractices and offenders on different points.
The Bill has also talked of the powers and functions of the authority, district tourism officers and other personnel which come under the ambit of the Act.
