Indian Animals that have gone  Extinct

Indian cheetah, or the Aisiatic cheetah, was native to India. But it went extinct in 20th century due to hunting and habitat loss.

The pink-headed duck is a large diving duck that was once found in parts of the Gangetic plains of India. It went extinct in the middle of 20th century.

A subspecies of the Javan rhino was found in Northeastern India. It went extinct in 20th century due to hunting and habitat loss.

The Indian aurochs has been found to be ancestral to both the Sanga and the zebu subspecies of domestic cattle. It is hypothesised that hunting, combined with habitat loss and crossbreeding, finally led to the extinction of the species.

It was found in the forests of central India. It went extinct over a centuty ago, but there have reports of sightings in recent past.

The species was last seen more than 70 years before independence, which indicates that hunting activities during the colonial period contributed significantly to the decline in its population.

Himalayan Quail

Vulture species like Indian white-rumped vulture, Indian vulture and Slender-billed vulture have experienced severe decline in population and have been wiped off from many areas.
