Majuli, the largest river islands of the World were formed as a result of the 1750s earthquake.

It is the smallest island district of Assam.

The main satras are Auniati Satra, Garamur Satra, Kamalabari Satra, and Dakhinpat Satra.

Majuli is resided by many tribal groups namely, Mising, Deoris, Ahoms and Sonowal Kacharis.
