Lakhimpur derives its name from "Lakshmi," the goddess of prosperity, reflecting its agricultural richness and abundance of paddy fields.
Established in 1839, Lakhimpur District has undergone several reorganizations, with its current structure comprising two subdivisions: Dhemaji and North Lakhimpur.
Spanning 2277 sqkm, with predominantly rural landscapes, Lakhimpur sits at the confluence of the Brahmaputra River and is bordered by Arunachal Pradesh to the north and east.
The district is divided into North Lakhimpur and Dhakuakhana subdivisions, each encompassing multiple police stations, ensuring efficient governance and law enforcement.
Lakhimpur boasts lush tropical rainforests, home to diverse flora and fauna, including iconic species like wild elephants, tigers, and a plethora of birdlife.
