Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg is a 6-lane access-controlled expressway with a total width of 120 m (90 m in hilly terrain).
It includes 6 tunnels, 24 interchanges, 65 flyovers/viaducts, and 400+ vehicular underpasses.
The expressway is designed to serve as a runway for airplanes during emergencies or war-like situations.
It aims to reduce the travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur from 16 hours to 8 hours.
The expressway is designed for a top speed of 120 km/hr in hilly terrain and 150 km/hr in plain terrain, making it the fastest road network in the country.
It is expected to contribute 6 per cent to the national trunk and freight infrastructure and will have 19 new townships developed along its route.
Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg passes through 3 wildlife sanctuaries, including Tansa Wildlife Sanctuary, Karanja-Sohol Black Buck Sanctuary, and Katepurna Wildlife Sanctuary.
The expressway aims to ensure zero fatalities and will have free telephone booths at every 5 km intervals as well as CCTV surveillance.
It will feature truck terminals, integrated cold storage facilities, wayside amenities, electric charging stations, and extensive landscaping throughout its length.
