Notorious Drug Lords of the World

Pablo Escobar Touted as world's most elusive cocaine trafficker, Pablo Escobar was a Columbian drug lord, narcoterrorist and a politician who was the founder and sole leader of the Medellin Cartel. Escobar was shot and killed while trying to escape police forces. 

Joaquin Guzman Commonly known as ''Él Chapo", Joaquin was a former drug lord within the Sinaloa Cartel, an international crime syndicate. He is considered to have been one of the most powerful drug traffickers in the world. Guzman is said to have joined the drug world through his father and founded his own cartel in 1988

Al Capone Alphonse Gabriel Capone, sometimes known by the nickname "Scarface", who earned notoriety during the Prohibition era for his criminal activities. His seven-year reign as notorious gangster ended when he went to prison at the age of 33. Capone died after his heart failed as a result of apoplexy.

Griselda Blanco Restrepo Known popularly as "Black Widow", was a Colombian drug lord of the Medellin Cartel and the most feared woman drug lord. She ruled the underworld in the 1970s through the early 2000s. She was shot dead on September 3, 2012, aged 69

Amado Carrillo Fuentes Amado was a Mexican drug lord who seized control of the Juarez Cartel after assassinating its boss Rafael Aguilar Guajardo. Amado was called "The Lord of the Skies" for his technique of transporting drug in large fleet of jets. He died in July 1997, after undergoing extensive plastic surgery to change his appearance.

Frank Lucas Frank was an American drug trafficker who operated in Harlem, New York City during the late 1960s and early 1970s. He was notorious for buying heroin directly from his source in the Golden Triangle in Southeast Asia. He died at the age of 88 on May 30, 2019

Carlos Lehder Carlos Lehder was a German-Colombian former drug lord and co-founder of the Medellin Cartel. He was released from prison in 2020 after serving jail term of 33 years. Lehder ran his cocaine transport empire in the Central Bahamas. 

Ricky Donnell Ross Ricky Donnell "Freeway Rick" Ross is an American author and convicted drug kingpin best known for his drug empire he established in Los Angeles, California. He was sentenced to life in prison but the sentence was shortened on appeal and Ross was released in 2009
