Pakke Tiger Reserve: The Lesser-Known Tiger Hotspot of Northeast

Situated in the East Kameng District, Pakke Tiger Reserve is a part of Pakhui or Pakke Wildlife Sanctuary.

Where is it?

Pakke Tiger Reserve offers a pristine landscape and is home to some of the rare species of flora and fauna.

What to Expect?

The reserve is home to over 2000 species of plants, 300 species of birds, 40 species of mammals, 30 species of amphibians and 36 species of reptiles.

Flora and Fauna

Pakke is one of the newer tiger destinations in the Northeast. Though sightings are rare, the place is playing a big role in tiger conservation in Northeast.

Tiger Sighting

Pakke offers a lot of options when it comes to bird watching. Several endangered bird species can be found here. These include the highly endangered Hornbill and White Winged Wood Duck.

Bird Watching

This Tiger Reserve has also won India Biodiversity Award 2016 in the category of 'Conservation of threatened species' for its Hornbill Nest Adoption Programme.

Awards

The best time is usually winter season, between November to March. You can also visit during the Nyokum Yullo, the harvest festival of Nyishi Tribe, which gives a glimpse into their culture.
