Mesi stated that she did it to show that it’s possible to find happiness and fulfillment on your own and that she wasn’t waiting around for a partner to define her happiness.
In 2022, Kshama Bindu, a 24-year-old woman from India, sparked widespread interest when she declared her intent to marry herself.
She became one of the first people in India to publicly announce a sologamy wedding.
In 2023, Italian visual artist Elena Ketra presented the digital performance Sologamy.org in Rome.
In the performance, people could marry themselves online and receive a free certificate.
