Raimona National Park: Kokrajhar's hidden paradise

Raimona National Park, located in the Kokrajhar district of Assam, India, was declared a national park on June 5, 2021.

A call to the wild

This announcement was made by Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, during the World Environment Day celebrations at Gandhi Mandap in Guwahati.

Protecting a natural heritage

Spanning across the Gossaigaon and Kokrajhar subdivisions of the Kokrajhar district in the Bodoland Territorial Region, the park covers an area of 422 square kilometers (163 square miles).

Journey through Raimona

It encompasses the northern part of the Ripu Reserve Forest, which has a total area of 508.62 square kilometers (196.38 square miles), and serves as the westernmost buffer to the Manas Tiger Reserve in the foothills of the Eastern Himalaya Biodiversity Hotspot.

Wildlife wonderland

Raimona National Park is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including tigers, clouded leopards, golden langurs, Indian gaurs, Asian elephants, spotted deer, wild buffalo, and hornbills.

A vast wilderness
