Rivers Which Never Meet a Sea or Ocean

Most rivers often meet up with seas or oceans in the end. However, there are many which dont have the fate. Here are some well known rivers around the world which never meet a sea or an ocean. 

Rivers that Never Meet Seas or Oceans

The Luni is the largest river in the Thar Desert. It originates in the Pushkar valley of the Aravalli Range, near Ajmer, passes through the southeastern portion of the Thar Desert, and ends in the marshy lands of Rann of Kutch in Gujarat, never reaching a sea of ocean.

Luni River

This river originates in California and ends in Oregon. The river is used extensively for agricultural purposes through a network of canals, dams and pumps. It is also a popular destination for fishing.

Lost River

It originates from snowpack located along the south-western slopes of the Black Range in New Mexico. The river supports a range of animal species, several of which have been classified as ‘endangered’.

Mimbres River

The fourth longest river in southern Africa, it originates in Angola’s sandy highlands, and eventually flows into Botswana. Okavango River ends in Okavango Delta, which is an endorheic basin in the Kalahari Desert.

Okavango River

This is the longest river in Antarctica. The river is essentially a melt water stream, which discharges into Lake Vanda. Onyx River does not flow into the ocean, as its part of endorheic drainage.

Onyx River

Outside the Nile Basin, this is the largest river in Ethiopia. The river starts and ends entirely within the boundaries of Ethiopia. It eventually discharges into Lake Turkana, which is located alongside the border with Kenya.

Omo River

The holy river is also among the rivers in India which does not meet the sea. It is the second-largest tributary river of the Ganges by discharge and the longest tributary in India. It merges with the Ganges at Triveni Sangam, Prayagraj.

Yamuna River
