The grand golf course in Shillong was established in 1898. Set up by British Civil Service Officers, it stands at an astounding height of 5200 ft.
It started as a 9-hole golf course, which was later transformed into an 18-hole course in 1924 by CK Rhodes and Captain Jackson.
It has the sixth deepest hole on the course in India lying at a depth of 540 m.
Apart from being a haven for the linksmen, this aesthetic field has a lot to offer. It is arrayed with a plethora of services like a library, a tennis court and a flower garden

Covering an area of 5873 yards, and with a par of 70, the tight fairways at the Golf course of the Shillong Golf Club are made of an indigenous species of local grass which give a solid effect on the soil thus making it challenging for the golfers.
The United States Golf Association and Museum has given it the title of 'Gleneagle of the East'.
