Wash the fish pieces thoroughly and marinate with turmeric and salt. Heat oil in a pan and shallow fry the fish pieces until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
In the same pan, heat oil and splutter mustard seeds. Sauté sliced onions until golden, then add ginger-garlic paste and cook for a minute. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until softened.
Mix in turmeric, red chili, and coriander powder. Stir well. Pour in 2 cups of water, season with salt, and bring it to a boil.
