Resurrected in a Chaulukya style architecture in 1951 after it was demolished by Aurangzeb during his reign, the Somnath temple is believed to be first among the twelve Aadi Jyotirlingas of India. 

SOMNATH TEMPLE

Situated at the west of Mathura’s old city, Krishna Janambhoomi Temple or Kesava Deo temple is one of the most venerated holy shrines of India. The birth of Lord Krishna took place in an ancient prison cell inside the temple.

On the bank of holy river Ganga in Varanasi, the magnificent architecture of Kashi Vishwanath temple is devoted to Lord Shiva. This temple is one of the twelve jyotirlinga, inspiring devotees from all around the world to visit the temple for a spiritual experience. 

THE KASHI VISHWANATH TEMPLE

The Vishveshwur Temple enshrines the Hindu god Shiva is located in the centre of the city Banaras. Now the Gyanvapi mosque stands at the site of the temple. 

VISHVESHWUR TEMPLE

This magnificent temple was differently built than conventional temples as it was in the form of a Greek cross. King Man Singh of Amer built the temple at a cost of ten million rupees but later on it was ransacked by Aurangzeb now only a three-storey structure remains.

GOVIND DEV TEMPLE

The majestic establishment is located in the state of Madhya Pradesh and was built by the Chaulakya and the Panama dynasty that ruled over the state. Aurangzeb’s radicalism to establish Islamic orthodoxy drove him to destroy the temple.

BHIMA DEVI TEMPLE The remaining ruins of this temple is a delineation of the systematic destruction of the temple by Islamic invaders and Aurangzeb. Bhima devi temple is located in Pinjore of Haryana

BHIMA DEVI TEMPLE

The temple gets its name as there are 64 yogini, attendants of goddess Parvati, present in the sculptures of this temple. Aurangzeb demolished all the yogini sculptures but the main idol of Shiva-Parvati was left unharmed.

TRIMBAKESHWAR SHIVA TEMPLE

Another of the twelve jyotirlingas destroyed by Aurangzeb is the Trimbakeshwar temple. The temple is situated at the source of Godavari River in Trimbak. The temple was reconstructed by third Peshwa Balaji Bajirao on the site of an old temple.
