The concept of oral hygiene dates back to ancient times. Egyptians and Babylonians used chewed twigs or animal bones to clean their teeth.
In the 15th century, the Chinese invented the first bristle toothbrush, using hog bristles attached to bone or bamboo handles.
The bristle toothbrush spread to Europe in the 16th century, brought by travelers.
William Addis, a British man, is credited with inventing the modern toothbrush in 1780. He attached pig bristles to a cow bone handle.
In 1938, DuPont introduced nylon bristles, which were more durable and hygienic than animal bristles. This marked a significant advancement in toothbrush technology.
