Unique Bihari wedding rituals before baarat prasthan

Satya Narayan Katha A Satya Narayan Katha kicks off the entire Bihari wedding celebration. The bride's family celebrates this fortunate tradition by praying to Lord Narayana.  To participate in this Bihari wedding tradition, they also invite friends and family members from the groom's side. A family priest begins the event by reciting Vedic mantras.

Cheka One of the finest Bihari wedding customs, the cheka, is comparable to an engagement. The Cheka usually takes place at the bride's home and both the groom and bride exchange their rings in front of their family member.

Haldi Kutai One of the traditional marital customs in Bihar is the 'Haldi Kutai'. On this day, the turmeric paste is made by every married member of the bride's family. The groom is covered with the turmeric paste, which is subsequently sent to the bride's home.

Tilak In this wedding ritual, the bride’s brother visits the groom’s house with a tilak thal and then the brother of the bride applies tilak on the groom’s forehead and blesses him with sweets and gifts.

Mandappachadan In this customs, a wedding mandap is set up and is decorated with mango leaves and banana trees which is a symbol of good luck. 

Haldi Ceremony One of the colourful, joyful, and emotional Indian wedding ceremonies is the haldi ceremony. The bride dons stunning Haldi outfits and floral jewellery on this particular day. Turmeric is applied on the bride's face by family members and close friends.

Matripooja The Haldi ceremony is followed by the Dhritdhaari and Matripooja. This Bihari marriage ceremony is carried out by both families to ask their ancestors for blessings. Additionally, the bride and groom offer cloths or money during the pooja to beg for their ancestors' pardon.

Imli Ghutai One of Bihar's most exquisite wedding customs is the Imli Ghutai. The bridegroom's mother grinds rice on a grinding stone during the ceremony. During the Imli Ghutai ceremony the maternal feeds the groom a betel nut.
