On 3 May 2023, ethnic violence erupted in India's north-eastern state of Manipur between the Meitei people, a majority that lives in the Imphal Valley, and the Kuki-Zo tribal community from the surrounding hills. According to government figures, as of 15 September, 175 people have been killed in the violence. 1,108 others were injured while 32 are missing. 4,786 houses were burnt and 386 religious structures including temples and churches were vandalized.

The Teesta-III dam was swept away on October 4 due to the bursting of the South Lhonak glacial lake upstream. The event caused widespread devastation downstream of the dam. As per some estimates, nearly 40 people have lost their lives and nearly 80 went missing.

This was such a case of corruption in Arunachal Pradesh, in which several arrests were made one after the other, APPSC Deputy Secretary-cum-Deputy Controller of Examinations Taket Jerang, private coaching institute teacher Akhlesh Yadav, besides aspirants who appeared in the exam was also caught by the police.

The Nagaland Assembly on November 9 unanimously passed the Nagaland Municipal Bill 2023 during an emergent session on Thursday, reserving one-third of seats in urban local bodies (ULBs) for women. The decision comes after a long-standing debate and numerous attempts to reach a consensus on the matter.

From March 2, after the election results were announced, Tripura has been racked by political violence. Supporters and activists of the Left and the Congress, which joined forces in the elections, have been under continuous attack while several saffron party workers were also admitted to the hospital. Their houses, shops, and other properties have either been gutted or damaged extensively, as have been their means of livelihood.

The border dispute between the neighbouring states dates back to January 21, 1972, when the Assam Reorganisation Act, 1971, separated Meghalaya from Assam. Twelve areas experienced disputes as a result of Meghalaya's objection. However, now both the governmet's have resolved most of the disputed areas.

In a landmark decision, the Shillong Archdiocese of the Catholic Church has permitted priests to give blessings to same-sex couples, but without any church ritual resembling marriage in Meghalaya.
